  • News from Camp Rap-A-Hope – the Making Spirits Bright Campaign

    Posted on December 10, 2014

We would like to make note one more time that Access MD is excited to sponsor Mobile’s Camp Rap-A-Hope in the TV15 “Making Spirits Bright” campaign this year like we did last year.

You probably know what Camp Rap-A-Hope is, but just in case, the camp’s mission is to give children who have cancer a camping experience they will never forget. It is a local charity here in Mobile, and offers year-long programming and week-long summer camps to kids ages 7 to 17. About 300 children participate, and they usually come from a 300 mile radius around Mobile.

  • Just how big is Blue Cross Blue Shield here in Alabama?

    Posted on December 6, 2014

We found this article interesting, showing that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama provides 86% of the business insurance bought here in Alabama. Michigan had the second highest Blue Cross percentage for business insurance of all other states at 67%.

We all knew that Blue Cross is the dominant insurance player in our state but as you can see it is much larger than what it is in other states.

Here is the link for your review.

  • Concierge medicine works

    Posted on October 26, 2014

Forbes recently published an article showing that concierge medicine more than paid for itself through fewer emergency room visits and hospital stays for those who use a concierge practice.

Savings also come from less paperwork due to third party providers having no role or a limited role in how health care is provided.

Concierge medicine is a form of preventative care because there are fewer reasons not to call the doctor. Of course members of Access MD receive Dr. Hashimi’s personal cell phone number. We find a lot of work can be done over the phone now, which makes care even easier.

It is great to see a magazine like Forbes agree with us that concierge medicine provides excellent value to the individual.
